Team Penske’ Will Power took the pole position for the Iowa Corn 300, which is the 11th race of the 17-race 2018 IndyCar season. This pole position is his second pole of the season, and it is the 52nd pole of his IndyCar career. He also took the pole position for last year’s Iowa Corn 300.
Power took the pole position for the Iowa Corn 300 around the four-turn, 0.894-mile (1.439-kilometer) Iowa Speedway oval in Newton, Iowa by recording a two-lap average speed of 182.391 miles per hour (35.291 total seconds).
Power led a 1-2 Chevrolet sweep, particularly a 1-2 Team Penske sweep, of the speed chart in this qualifying session. Josef Newgarden, who topped the speed chart in the first and only pre-qualifying practice session, qualified in second place in his #1 Team Penske Chevrolet.

Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay was the highest qualifying Honda driver for the race. He qualified in third place in his #28 Honda. Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud and Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth in their #22 Chevrolet and #27 Honda, respectively.
The highest qualifying non-Team Penske Chevrolet driver was Ed Carpenter Racing’s Ed Carpenter, who qualified in ninth place in his #20 Chevrolet. The highest qualifying non-Andretti Autosport Honda driver was Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, who qualified in sixth in his #9 Honda.
The second and final practice session for the Iowa Corn 300 is scheduled to take place later this evening at 6:45 p.m. ET. It is scheduled to be broadcast live from Iowa Speedway on IndyCar RaceControl, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
