NASCAR Cup Series: Kasey Kahne penalized after 2018 Gander Outdoors 400

Kasey Kahne has been issued a 10-point penalty following the 21st race of the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season, the Gander Outdoors 400.

Leavine Family Racing’s Kasey Kahne, the driver of the #95 Chevrolet, has been docked 10 points in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings as a result of a post-qualifying inspection failure ahead of the 21st race of the 36-race 2018 Cup Series season, the Gander Outdoors 400, at Pocono Raceway this past Sunday.

The #95 Leavine Family Racing team have been docked 10 owner points as well. Kahne finished the race in 30th place after qualifying in 24th but being forced to start in 40th (last) since he was one of 13 drivers who failed post-qualifying inspection, and those drivers lined up at the back of the field in order based on their respective point totals in the championship standings.

Before this 10-point penalty, Kahne sat in 27th place in the championship standings and in the playoff picture with 306 points. He has now dropped to 28th in both the championship standings and the playoff picture with 296 points, as Front Row Motorsports’ Michael McDowell has 305 points and benefited from this penalty, moving from 28th to 27th in the process.

This penalty has been reflected in the Beyond the Flag NASCAR Cup Series championship standings and playoff picture pages.

While the formulated and non-formulated NASCAR Cup Series Team Power Rankings and NASCAR Cup Series Driver Power Rankings have not yet been published on Beyond the Flag following the Gander Outdoors 400, they have already been calculated and will not be changed as a result of Kahne’s penalty.

However, the variables affected by this penalty in the formulated sets of these power rankings are scheduled to be updated accordingly prior to the release of the sets of rankings that are scheduled to be published following this weekend’s race at Watkins Glen International, the Go Bowling at The Glen, in order to make sure that the rankings are based on accurate statistics.
