Firestone is set to serve as the title sponsor for the 2019 and 2020 IndyCar season finales at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in September.

There have not been any IndyCar races at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca since the 2004 Champ Car season, but that is set to change in 2019, as it was confirmed in July of 2018 that the track would be returning to the schedule this year.

When it was confirmed that Laguna Seca would be returning to the IndyCar schedule in the 2019 season, it was also confirmed that the track would replace Sonoma Raceway as the venue at which the season finale would be contested.

Now it has been confirmed that Firestone will serve as the title sponsor for the race around the 11-turn, 2.238-mile (3.602-kilometer) Laguna Seca natural terrain road course in Monterey California when it is held in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

More from IndyCar

As opposed to being simply called the IndyCar Grand Prix of Monterey, this race is set to be called the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey as a result of this sponsorship agreement, which is a two-year agreement that runs through the 2020 season. The race at Laguna Seca is scheduled to serve as the IndyCar season finale through at least the 2021 season.

This race, which is the 17th and final race on the 2019 schedule, is scheduled to be held on Sunday, September 22. It is scheduled to be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Here is what Lisa Boggs, the director of motorsports for Bridgestone Americas, had to say about Firestone being set to serve as the title sponsor for the 2019 and 2020 IndyCar season finales, according to IndyCar.

"“Firestone is a time-tested brand with a rich tradition in open-wheel racing, making it the perfect match for INDYCAR’s return to this iconic road course. With this new sponsorship, Firestone now will help deliver great events for fans when the NTT IndyCar Series season goes green in St. Petersburg and crosses the finish line in Monterey – while continuing to provide world-class tire technology for every lap in between.”"

Firestone also serves as the title sponsor for the season opener, the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida. This race is set to get the 2019 season underway on Sunday, March 10. The company is entering its 25th consecutive season as a tire supplier in IndyCar, and it is entering its 20th consecutive season as the sport’s lone tire supplier.
