IndyCar: James Hinchcliffe tops third 2019 Barber practice session

James Hinchcliffe topped the speed chart in the third and final practice session for the third race of the 2019 IndyCar season, the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.

Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe topped the speed chart in the third and final practice session for the third race on the 17-race 2019 IndyCar schedule, the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, at Barber Motorsports Park after topping the speed chart in the second practice session for this race as well.

Hinchcliffe topped the speed chart in this most recent practice session by recording a top lap time of 68.7351 seconds (124.652 miles per hour) around the the 17-turn, 2.38-mile (3.830-kilometer) Barber Motorsports Park natural terrain road course in Birmingham, Alabama in his #5 Honda.

Hinchcliffe led a top five Honda driver sweep on the speed chart in this practice session after the first two practice sessions both ended with six Honda drivers in the top six.

Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato rounded out the top five by finishing in second, third, fourth and fifth place in their #18 Honda, #9 Honda, #88 Honda and #15 Honda, respectively.

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot was the highest finishing Chevrolet driver in any practice session so far this weekend. He finished in sixth place in his #21 Chevrolet. Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud finished right behind him in seventh in his #22 Chevrolet.

Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist, who topped the speed chart in the opening practice session of the weekend, finished in eighth place in his #10 Honda. Carlin’s Max Chilton and Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi rounded out the top 10 by finishing in ninth and 10th in their #59 Chevrolet and #27 Honda, respectively.

Qualifying for the race is scheduled to air live on NBC Sports Network later this afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET. The race warmup session is scheduled to air live on NBC Sports Gold tomorrow afternoon beginning at 12:10 p.m. ET, and the race itself is scheduled to air live on NBC Sports Network later tomorrow afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET.
