IndyCar: 2019 Indy 500 – Live Saturday qualifying updates

Follow along with our live updates of Saturday’s qualifying session for the 103rd running of the Indy 500, the crown jewel on the IndyCar schedule.

The wait is finally over, as qualifying for the 103rd running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” and the most prestigious race on the IndyCar schedule is scheduled to begin today.

A total of 36 drivers are set to attempt to qualify for this year’s Indianapolis 500 around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana.

Each of these 36 drivers is guaranteed one four-lap qualifying attempt from 11:00 a.m. ET to 5:50 p.m. ET today. You can see the full qualifying order, both including and not including the backup “T” cars, by clicking here.

When today’s qualifying session has concluded, 30 of these 36 drivers will have locked themselves into the field for next Sunday’s 200-lap race. The drivers who finish from 10th through 30th place will have locked themselves into their respective starting positions.

Meanwhile, the drivers who finish from 31st through 36th place in today’s qualifying session will be sent to Sunday’s Bump Day qualifying session to determine which three drivers will line up in row 11 on the starting grid and thus start from 31st through 33rd and which three drivers will end up being bumped from the field completely.

The drivers who finish in the top nine in today’s qualifying session will advance to Sunday’s Fast Nine Shootout to determine how they will line up from row one to row three on the starting grid and thus where they will start from first through ninth place in the race.

Today’s qualifying session for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 is also set to broadcast live on NBC Sports Gold from 11:00 a.m. ET to 5:00 p.m. ET. At 5:00 p.m. ET, it is set to switch over to NBC Sports Network, where it is set to remain until 6:00 p.m. ET. The qualifying session itself is scheduled to last from 11:00 a.m. ET to 5:50 p.m. ET.
