Charlie Kimball is set to make his sixth start of the 2019 IndyCar season driving for Carlin in this Sunday’s race at Portland International Raceway.

Charlie Kimball entered the 2019 IndyCar season slated to drive in five of the season’s 17 races for Carlin behind the wheel of the Chevrolet after driving full-time for the team last season.

However, that five looks like it will end up being seven.

Kimball was not originally slated to compete in last Saturday night’s race at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, but he did anyway because Patricio O’Ward, who was originally scheduled to do so after signing a 13-race deal with the team before the season, was signed by the Red Bull Junior Team and now competes in Japanese Super Formula.

Now Carlin have confirmed that the 34-year-old Camarillo, California native is set to drive the #23 Chevrolet in this Sunday afternoon’s race at Portland International Raceway.

Kimball’s start in this 105-lap Grand Prix of Portland at the the 12-turn, 1.967-mile (3.166-kilometer) Portland International Raceway natural terrain road course in Portland, Oregon is set to be his sixth start of the season, as one of his five originally scheduled starts has not yet taken place.

He is also set to compete in the season finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday, September 22.

Max Chilton is set to drive alongside Kimball at Carlin in both of these two races, the final two races of the season, as he drives the #59 Chevrolet in road and street course races only after giving up competing in oval races earlier this year.

So far this season, Kimball’s best finish is his 10th place finish in the race at Pocono Raceway. In his only other road or street course start of the season in the season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, he finished in 17th. His average finish in his five starts so far in 2019 is 17.60.

In last year’s race at Portland International Raceway, Kimball finished in an impressive seventh place, his second best finish since he started driving for Carlin upon their entry into IndyCar ahead of the 2018 season.
