Six-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton stated that he is grateful Tom Brady even knows his name after Brady praised Hamilton before he won his sixth title.

Six-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady of the New England Patriots offered high praise for newly crowned six-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport ahead of his championship-clinching performance in Sunday’s United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas.

Brady was asked during Friday’s press conference how he felt about Hamilton, who he also revealed is his neighbor in New York, being on the cusp of winning his sixth world championship since Brady himself has previously been in that position twice. Hamilton had never been in this position before having won his fifth title last year.

The 42-year-old quarterback won his fifth Super Bowl in remarkable comeback fashion from down by 28-3 to beat the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI by a score of 34-28 in February of 2017 before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII the following February by a score of 41-33.

In February of this year, he became the NFL’s only six-time Super Bowl champion with a 13-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII.

Before Hamilton ultimately went on to clinch his sixth world championship with his second place finish in the 56-lap United States Grand Prix around the 20-turn, 3.427-mile (5.515-kilometer) Circuit of the Americas road course in Austin, Texas behind teammate Valtteri Bottas, he responded to Brady’s high praise, stating that he is just grateful that he “even knows my name”.

Here is what the 34-year-old Briton, who has now won three consecutive championships and five in the last six seasons, had to say about Brady’s remarks, according to ESPN.

"“I’ve seen him playing at his best, again, at a Super Bowl against Atlanta and just performing miracles, and it’s interesting, because as I’ve gone through my career I’ve been fortunate enough to meet the top athletes, with [Novak] Djokovic and [Rafael] Nadal and Tom.“To get to a place where you start to see a common ground between yourselves and you start to realize that you actually have a lot in common in terms of how you prepare and the struggles that you go through mentally, and you can learn a lot from these people. When you get positive words from a great like Tom it’s really warming to the heart and I’m very grateful for the fact that he even knows my name, it’s so cool, man.”"

A seventh Formula 1 world championship for Lewis Hamilton would tie him with Michael Schumacher on the all-time titles list. With 83 career victories, Hamilton could also very well break Schumacher’s all-time wins record of 91 next year; he hasn’t won fewer than nine races in a season since the 2013 season.
