Just one seat remains unconfirmed for the 2020 Formula 1 season following the confirmations of Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso.

Three of the four remaining seats without confirmed drivers for the 2020 Formula 1 season were filled earlier Tuesday morning.

These three seats, one at Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and two at Scuderia Toro Rosso (Scuderia Alpha Tauri from 2020), effectively the Red Bull Racing junior team, ended up going to the three drivers currently in them.

Red Bull Racing team manager Helmut Marko had already confirmed that these drivers would be the three drivers who land in these seats because they all had contracts to remain within the organization, but he stated that the team have the right to decide whether they would drive for Red Bull Racing or Toro Rosso.

With Alexander Albon set to return to Red Bull Racing and Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat set to return to Toro Rosso, just one open seat remains on the 2020 Formula 1 grid.

That seat is at ROKiT Williams Racing and is arguably the least desirable seat on the grid given just how much worse Williams have been than the rest of the field this season. Williams have scored one point this season, but that was a fluky point that was scored in the rain-soaked German Grand Prix that resulted in seven drivers having mechanical issues and/or crashing out and another two being penalized. So Williams basically scored by default with a 10th place finish.

The Grove-based team have already confirmed that George Russell is set to return next year, but Robert Kubica has confirmed that he will not be back with the team next year, meaning that he won’t be in Formula 1 in 2020 since no other open seats remain on the grid.

Nicholas Latifi, who currently competes in Formula 2 and serves as Williams’ test and reserve driver, has been tipped to land alongside the 21-year-old Briton next year, but Williams have stated that they will not confirm their 2020 driver lineup until after the 2019 season ends.
